Expectations to Expectant
Read Psalm 130:5–8
The countdown is on as we move toward Christmas day. Excitement may be filling your home as you wait in anticipation for all that December 25th holds. Trees are colorfully adorned, lights are glowing brightly, the aroma of baked delights fills the air, and shopping for just the right gifts has begun. Perhaps you have a checklist of favorite traditions, including holiday movies and festivities that you are planning to partake in this year. You may be one who has great expectations for this Christmas, but our focus should always be set on waiting on the Lord. Just as the watchmen on the walls waited for morning to arrive and watched expectantly for those traveling to their city, so we wait expectantly for our savior, reading His Word and putting all our hope in Him. As we spend time with Him, He will be our greatest delight.
Reflection
Coming into this Christmas season, what have you been looking forward to? What are your expectations for family, friends, and yourself?
Are you looking forward to waiting daily on the Lord with an expectant heart, wanting Him more than anything else? If you are not, do you want to wait for him expectantly? How?
